1. They Pressure You to Pay Immediately

A classic scam line: "Five people are already coming with cash. If you don't pay right now, it's gone." Scammers rely on urgency and panic so you won't ask questions. Never transfer money without:

• Inspecting the lodge physically with your own eyes.
• Confirming other students actually live in the compound.
• Verifying the caretaker or landlord's true contact details.

2. They Demand "Inspection Fees" Before Showing You Anything

Legit agents might ask for a token inspection fee (₦1,000-₦3,000) when you meet, but beware of agents demanding money upfront online before taking you anywhere. If you hear "Just send ₦5,000 first to secure the inspection," that's a red flag.

RED FLAG. They are likely fake or completely unserious. Never send money to "book" an inspection.

3. They Keep the Caretaker or Landlord Completely Hidden

A legitimate agent will easily connect you with the caretaker or landlord when it's time to sign the paper or make payments. If the agent gives excuses, avoids introducing you, or demands that you pay rent into their personal account, walk away immediately.
